Make a Plan
A family emergency plan ensures everyone knows what to do, where to meet, and who to call.
Your Plan Should Include
- Two meeting locations: one near your home, one outside your neighborhood
- Two evacuation routes from your home
- Out-of-area emergency contact (long distance calls often work when local ones don't)
- Contact information for all family members (phone, email, work/school addresses)
- Medical information: medications, allergies, doctors, insurance
- Pet plan: carriers, food, vaccination records, pet-friendly shelters
- Important documents location (or cloud storage plan)
- Utility shut-off procedures (gas, water, electricity)
- Insurance information and photos of your home/possessions

Evacuation Planning
Know your evacuation zone by visiting Genasys Protect. Plan multiple routes out of your area -- during a wildfire, your primary route may be blocked.
- Know your Genasys evacuation zone
- Identify at least two routes out of your neighborhood
- Drive each route so you know it by heart
- Know where evacuation shelters are likely to be set up
- Plan where you will go (friend, family, hotel) and discuss with them in advance
- Keep your car's gas tank at least half full during fire season
Distribute Your Plan
- Give a copy to each family member
- Keep a copy in each car
- Keep a copy in your go-bag
- Share with your out-of-area contact
- Share with trusted neighbors
- Review and update at least once per year
Review Your Plan Annually
Phone numbers change, kids grow up, and circumstances evolve. Review and update your plan at least once a year -- the start of fire season is a good reminder.
