Firewise USA

Firewise USA is a national recognition program that helps communities reduce wildfire risk through education, cooperation, and collective action.

What is Firewise USA?

Firewise USA is a program of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) that provides a framework for neighbors to work together to reduce wildfire risk. Recognized communities take collective responsibility for preparing their homes and landscapes for wildfire.

Several neighborhoods in our area have already achieved Firewise USA recognition, and more are in the process.

How to Apply

  • Form a board or committee of interested neighbors
  • Complete a community wildfire risk assessment
  • Create an action plan to address identified risks
  • Invest a minimum of $25.79 per dwelling unit annually in risk reduction
  • Host at least one Firewise education event per year
  • Apply through the NFPA Firewise USA portal
  • Renew annually to maintain recognition
