Prepare for Wildfire

Our WUI (Wildland-Urban Interface) location makes wildfire our most acute threat. Understanding how wildfires destroy homes is the first step to protecting yours.

Embers Are the Primary Threat

Embers cause 90% of home destruction during wildfires. They can travel more than a mile ahead of the fire front, landing on and igniting combustible materials on and around your home. Defensible space and home hardening are your best defenses.

The Home Ignition Zone

Research shows that a home's survival during a wildfire depends primarily on the condition of the home itself and its immediate surroundings -- the Home Ignition Zone (HIZ). The HIZ includes the home and the area within 100-200 feet of it.

The good news: you have direct control over your Home Ignition Zone. By creating defensible space and hardening your home, you dramatically increase the chances of your home surviving a wildfire.

Ready, Set, Go!

The Ready, Set, Go! program provides an organized framework for wildfire preparedness. It mirrors the three levels of evacuation:
