Your Ready Community

A Ready Community is a group of neighbors who have organized themselves to be prepared for and respond to emergencies together.

What is a Ready Community?

A Ready Community is a neighborhood that has organized for emergency preparedness. Members know each other, share contact information, identify special needs, and have a plan for mutual aid during emergencies.

Ready Communities are the backbone of WPV-Ready's neighborhood-level preparedness. They provide the human connections that make response effective when professional responders are overwhelmed.

How to Start

  • Talk to a few interested neighbors about organizing
  • Contact WPV-Ready for guidance and materials
  • Host an initial neighborhood meeting (WPV-Ready can attend and present)
  • Create a neighborhood contact list with phone numbers and emails
  • Identify neighbors with special skills (medical, mechanical, ham radio)
  • Identify neighbors who may need extra help (elderly, disabled, non-English speaking)
  • Designate neighborhood meeting points and communication plans
  • Share your plan with WPV-Ready so we can support you

What a Ready Community Does

  • Maintains an updated contact list for all households
  • Meets periodically to review and update plans
  • Practices communication and response procedures
  • Shares information during emergencies (check on neighbors, relay updates)
  • Coordinates mutual aid (tools, generators, transportation, shelter)
  • Connects with the broader WPV-Ready and CERT networks
